Sun City Texas Celebrates Its Fifteenth
Anniversary
As hard as it is to believe, Del
Webb built its first home in Sun City Texas 15 years ago. In that short time we
have grown from two people to a community of more than 10,000 residents and
from one home to more than 5,800.
There is a lot to brag about our
little part of Texas’ hill country. First there are the three championship eighteen-hole golf
courses beautifully placed. Then there is the approximately $80,000,000 of
amenities, the two fitness centers, the five pools, the tennis and pickle ball
courts, the two Activities Centers, the wood working shop, ball parks, dog
parks, our own restaurant, small shopping venues, fire and ambulance stations,
and police substation all encapsulated within Sun City's 3800 acres
If that were not enough, there are over 41 charter clubs that
have been formed in last 15 years, plus more than enough indoor and outdoor
space to accommodate just about any hobby, interest, or activity.
One of the more esoteric and over looked
strong points of Sun City Texas is you, those that live here. You come from all
walks of life. This diversity of experience has produced a vast pool of
qualified people who have been
willing to take on the reins of leadership. They are everywhere, in our
neighborhoods, our clubs, our special interest groups, our governance committees
and our Board. A concrete example of this is found in our financial stability.
Under the Board’s direction,
Jim Romine and his more than capable staff have been instrumental in keeping
our homeowner dues at $1,000 per year. Believe me this is no small fête. It is
accomplished through strong financial management and revenue generation via
advertising, activities net revenue, room rentals and transfer fees. In a non-financial
venue, just drive up Sun City and Del Webb Boulevards and around our
neighborhoods. Take the time to take in
all the beauty that surrounds us. We probably never think of all the people who
work and own here who display their pride of ownership which is reflected in
all that beauty.
This is not just the opinion of someone in front of an iPad
typing these babblings. At the May Annual Meeting Brent Baker, President of our
Board of Directors and Pulte Vice President of Land Acquisition and Development
said, “I can’t
express what a talented team we have. I
work with many other projects in my role with the Developer, and I can assure the best and
brightest in the community management business are right here in Sun City”.
Finally, Sun City Texas represents what is
the best of America. We have a great sense of community, caring for and
enjoying our friends and neighbors, and donating our time and energy to those
in need. We stood along highway195, flags in hand and heads held high when one
of our country’s fallen young servicemen passed by. We
thanked our servicemen and servicewomen with a day of gratitude, cheers, food,
and golf. On those special days, flags can
be seen in every neighborhood. Our woodworkers make “toys for tots”. A group of residents help Habitat for Humanity
build houses. We have people go to Fort Hood weekly to help offer a little
Texas home to those going into and returning from harm’s way. We volunteer,
tens of thousands of hours per year in an effort to make Georgetown, Texas
in general, and Sun
City specifically an outstanding place to live, work, and play.
Enough
of these musings. What is really important that makes Sun City special to you? Share your
thoughts about Sun City Texas with us; we would really like to know.
