The Citizens Council motives and integrity have once
again become a central message in an election. It is time to set the record
straight. Our Charter and Vision
describe our common beliefs. We are
focused on making Sun City Texas the premier adult community in the country
with sound governance system, good financial health with residents who
enjoy the good life they have earned in a friendly positive
atmosphere. We are an independent
group not affiliated with the Developer, the Community Association, or any
part of the governance system. We
speak for ourselves and do not pretend to speak for the whole community or
all residents.
The Citizens
Council is not a secret organization--
it is composed of members of the community, nearly all of whom have
volunteered to serve our community in a wide range of ways. We
are accused of being a secret organization because we do not publish our
membership list to the community. We
respect our member's rights to privacy like any number of civic
organizations and clubs like Rotary, Kiwanis, Shriners, Friends of the
Georgetown Symphony, and others
The Citizens Council
was formed for legitimate, and necessary, purposes so that
ALL residents could
"take charge" of our own future in light of transition and
known differences and competing interests between residents and the
developer.
The Citizens Council has carried out
those purposes in a useful, informative, and balanced manner
through a series of widely circulated issue papers.
The Citizens Council has not endorsed or met with any
candidate. We have provided information to
our members and residents about the CA Board election process. Board Member Raynie endorsed two candidates without
contacting or meeting the other three.
The Citizens Council is a positive, useful, organization of
very good people, all of whom are residents, who deserve applause
and respect not condemnation. We
admire and thank members who serve or have served our community, those who
work on committees or in other governance positions, all those who wish to
be heard.
The
attack on the Council is scarcely more than a political maneuver
to distract voters from fully evaluating the five candidates for the
CA Board of Directors and voting for the three who are most qualified for
the positions.
Some residents have shared a belief that
our intent is to muffle Board Member Raynie and his opposing position to some actions taken by the
Board, the Governance Committees, and CA Staff. On the contrary, we welcome all points of
view to any debate. We have never
done anything to quash an individual's right to freedom of speech.
We ask the same courtesy in return. We are active committed people who seek
the best for our community through positive deliberative action.
