The Citizens Council sent a message to residents on
January 5, 2010 with information on the need for volunteers to serve on
City of Georgetown Advisory Boards and Commissions. There were about 200 clicks to access
the link in the message for information on openings on the Georgetown
City website. Mayor George
Garver commented in an email:
You are wonderful. We have one of the
largest number of applications in some time. We do appreciate your
concern and assistance. ggg
The Citizens Council also thanks all of you who not only
read our notice but took the time to read the City's announcement and
apply for the openings. You have once again proven that Sun City folks
are not only residents but
true citizens of Georgetown.

U.S. Census Day ~ April 1, 2010
This year is the beginning of a new decade
and the year of the 23rd
U.S. Census. Throughout
the next few months, you will frequently hear and read " We Can't Move
Forward Until You Mail It Back." , a message from the U.S. Census
Bureau to U.S. residents.
The U.S. Census
counts every resident in the United States ---citizens and
non-citizens and is required by the Constitution to do this every 10
years.
In March, the Census Bureau will send a short
10-question form to every household in America accompanied by a prepaid
envelope. Residents are
required to:
- Fill in the form to account for everyone living
at your address as of April 1, 2010
- Mail the form back as soon as possible
Why is it
important to participate?
When
you fill out the Census form, you are making a statement about what
resources your community needs going forward.
·
The results
are used to allocate seats in Congress and state legislatures,
and electoral votes. It
is projected that Texas may gain as many as four seats in the U.S. House
of Representatives.
·
Results are
also used to make decisions about how to allocate more than $400 billion
in federal funding to be spent on infrastructure and services.
How does it Affect Georgetown,
Texas?
Not only for eventual allocation of
federal funding to the city, the data for Georgetown will be used to
determine if redistricting is necessary to maintain a substantially equal
representation among the 7 City Council positions and certain school
districts. Current studies
indicate that District 4, which includes Sun City, is significantly under
represented on the Georgetown City Council.
·
It
encompasses 16.6 square miles.
The next largest District is less than half the size at 8.1 square
miles
·
There are
7,915 households with an approximate population of 16,047. The next largest District is also
less than half the size with 3,160 households and approximately 7,863
residents.
·
Our current
Councilperson, Bill Sattler, represents 32.5% of the total population
while the next largest Councilperson's District represents 15.9% of the
population.
